Western Conference of the Association for Asian Studies (WCAAS)
El Colegio de México
October 18-19, 2019
Centro de Estudios de Asia y África (CEAA) at El Colegio de México (Colmex) is proud to announce that we will be hosting the 2019 Western Conference of the Association of Asian Studies (WCAAS). CEAA last hosted the WCAAS in 1993, so a return to Mexico City is long overdue!
We have posted our call for papers, panels and roundtables, and poster sessions on this site, with a deadline of July 10, 2019, and we look forward to your proposals. We will be adding more content soon, including registration and payment information as well as more information about the conference, logistics, Colmex, and Mexico City. We think you will find Mexico City an inviting and cosmopolitan place and hope you will enjoy your stay here – and reserve a little time away from the conference to explore!
The theme for this year’s conference is “Crossing Borders” – a broader description is found in the call for proposals page. We hope that this year’s conference will help facilitate conversations and engagement between academics in the United States and Canada and their Mexican and Latin American counterparts. Many participants will have literally crossed a border for the conference, and we hope that in these polarized times Asian studies scholars of all disciplines will be able to interact and realize there is much that binds us. We are sure that this will be a most stimulating and productive conference, and we look forward to seeing you here.
